Every province has its own curriculum
Canada has no national curriculum. The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada notes that there is “no integrated national system of education”; each province and territory sets its own (CMEC). Topics like fractions, coding or essay writing turn up in different grades in different provinces.
So instead of claiming to match one curriculum, we place each child by what they are actually learning. Tell us the province, grade and current unit (a recent report card or worksheet helps), and the free trial confirms the right group.
Provincial assessments parents ask about
- Ontario: EQAO assessments in Grade 3 and Grade 6 (reading, writing and math), Grade 9 math, and the Grade 10 literacy test (EQAO). See our Ontario math page and EQAO Grade 6 math prep guide.
- British Columbia: the Foundation Skills Assessment in Grades 4 and 7 (BC government) and the Grade 10 numeracy assessment, which is a graduation requirement (BC curriculum).
Moving between the US and Canada?
Families who move often find their child ahead in one topic and behind in another. Our guide to Common Core vs the Ontario math curriculum explains the main differences and what to check.
Free help worth knowing about
Ontario students in Grades 4 to 12 in English-language publicly funded schools can get free one-on-one online math help from Ontario Certified Teachers through TVO Learn Mathify. It is a good option for homework questions. Wren School is different: a regular live class with the same small group, twice a week.
Questions from Canadian parents
Do you follow the Ontario or BC curriculum?
We don’t claim formal alignment with any provincial curriculum. Each province sets its own, and the order of topics differs. When you book, tell us your child’s province, grade and current unit, and we place them in a group working at that level.
Can I pay in Canadian dollars?
Yes. Prices are CAD $549 for a group of 8, $899 for a group of 4 and $1,299 for a group of 2, per child per month for 8 live 50-minute classes.
Are the tutors Canadian?
Our tutors live in Canada or the United States, and every tutor passes a background check before teaching.
Do grade levels match between Canada and the US?
Grade numbers line up in most provinces: Grade 5 in Ontario is roughly the same age as 5th grade in the US. The content in each grade differs a little, which is why we place children by level as well as grade.
